Why is something so natural for birds impossible for us people?
Why can thought and imagination fly but we, humans, can’t?
Should these facts restrict us when educating children?
Children seem to come from another planet, like the Little Prince, who knows no limits in time or space. He can travel from planet to planet and he learns that what is most essential is invisible to the eye but can be felt with the heart. (But the eyes are blind. One must look with the heart…) Nothing is impossible for our kids, either.
Today children come into the world with an attitude and perceptions that are different from ours. We live in new dynamic times of great contrasts and rapid development and these factors turn kids into a powerful tool for changes. We are the people who have taken a difficult but very important task to educate our children and the sooner we understand their vital role, the more quickly we will be able to respond to their needs. Children born today are infinite and they have the inner knowledge of truth in life and the perception that there is something more to the world than what our eyes can see.
We, adults, follow the restrictions imposed upon us by the System and Society. However, we have to get rid of these constraints and be flexible and dynamic so we could be an inspiration for our students and not just boring and strict teachers. Outdated and boring methods of teaching and a conservative ideological atmosphere in schools can no longer meet the needs and aspirations of the new millennium generation.
This is the main reason kids have no desire to go to school. They want smiling and positive teachers who can get their attention; they want a bright, colourful and positive learning environment that stimulates their senses. Kids want a school they can love – a school where under the skilful guidance of teachers and dreamers, they can wish to fly on the wings of their imagination. Our motto at Nikolay Petrini School is ‘Give a child wings but let them learn how to fly themselves’.
Children love kites, balloons, fantasy and dreams because they take them to a world without limits. That is why we have decided to choose the theme ‘I Can Fly’ for the project ‘I Love My School’. We want our children to ‘fly on the wings of their dreams, knowledge and desires’ and enjoy their bold and dashing adventure!
