My name is Elena Petkova and I am a class teacher of Class 1B. I have been working at Aleko Konstantinov School for 8 years now and I teach children from Year 1 to Year 4.
My classroom is named ‘Earth’ and the name is written on the door. The minute I saw the images of a beautiful unicorn and magnificent landscape, it became my favourite classroom as my zodiac sign is Earth. The room is painted in green but the students call it Classroom ‘Earth’, not ‘The Green Room’. In my opinion, the character and significance of the Project have been delivered successfully. It is very boring for classrooms to have numbers, e.g. Classroom 1, 2, 3, etc., instead of names.
You don’t realise how quickly time with the kids passes in this new beautiful environment. I often feel I am a child again! A teacher must be very patient and calm, especially with the youngest students. I feel this new way of decorating a classroom helps me express myself better as a teacher.
The students in Year 1 can read much better now. I have seen some of them read the educational information on the photo wallpaper during breaks between classes, e.g. ‘The upper layer of soil is called land’, etc.
It is very important these days to teach children from a young age to love Nature and protect the Planet Earth.
The classroom offers fresh atmosphere and creates good mood in children.
I think this innovative learning environment is more creative and interesting.
