“The power of Bulgarian holidays and traditions”
The school before
Inspiration for the interior design
Preserving Bulgarian traditions and customs is important for our identity as Bulgarians. We want our children to know their symbolism, meaning and power. For example, the word in Bulgarian “praznik” which means “holiday” comes from “empty”, meaning “a day when there is no work”. This is a day different of everyday life, dedicated to honouring the higher powers on which human well-being depends. That is why the holiday is a special time, accompanied by various customs, beliefs and ideas, stories and songs.
Project description
Customs are actions by which a person in traditional culture strives to ensure his health and well-being. That is why the wallpapers in the foyers depict the different Bulgarian traditions and holidays: mummery, firefighting, rose picking, making martenitsas and others. In the corridors we placed friezes with Bulgarian embroideries and lyrics of folk songs, proverbs and poems.

The children and the flowers
Creating areas with flowers “cleaners” and herbs in the classrooms at school in order to enrich the air with oxygen and healing aromas. This helps our children to be healthy and to have a quick mind. It is necessary to have clean air in the classroom, saturated with oxygen and fresh aromas.
