Inspiration for the interior design
Special School for Students with Hearing Impairment “Professor Dr. Stoyan Belinov”, Plovdiv is one of the five special schools in the country. Children and pupils from all over Bulgaria are educated here. For them the school is not only an educational institution, it is a second home and we are a family. We want them to grow up confident and purposeful. To have dreams and the will to follow them. To be successful! This is our drive, our inspiration! Our school is gradually becoming a “colorful” school, breaking the stereotype of the traditional school environment. It is filled with inspiring thoughts and messages to attract and motivate students and us – their teachers. Light, warmth and comfort radiate from all the corridors and foyers of the school. Classrooms and offices predispose to a calm and pleasant working process.
Project Description
First floor
“I believe in myself!”
The world of fairy tales is wonderful. Touching it makes children happy. It provokes their imagination and their desire to discover and explore life. Warm colours and beautiful friezes with motivating words and messages greet us from the entrance of the school. The theme of this first floor is “I believe in myself”, because the hardest thing is to start believing and remembering that nothing is impossible. Our alumni are hearing impaired students with multiple disabilities. Each one of them is a universe of feelings, emotions, dreams, abilities… We want them to have faith in themselves as much as we have faith in them. To grow with confidence in their abilities, to transcend the comfort of the deaf community and make themselves known to us all. May every child have the confidence to say “I believe in myself!”.
Second floor
“Miracles happen to me!”
“Miracles happen to me” is the theme of the second floor because miracles happen to those who believe in them. Who, if not our little students can dream, have faith in the good, look at the world with pure childlike eyes. Who, if not us, who prove that miracles happen every day. “Miracles Happen to Me” is a theme that introduces young students to a new period of their growing up. Everything they go through is interesting and exciting – the new knowledge, abilities, skills they learn, new friendships and exciting games.
Third floor
“I am successful!”
“I am successful” is a theme that motivates through its messages at an age when students are maturing and shaping as individuals. We have chosen it for our grown-up students who are step by step approaching their own peaks every day, pursuing their goals and striving to realize their dreams. And as Theodore Roosevelt said, “Believe you can, and you’ve gone halfway to success.”
Dormitory at the school – to be made in 2023
Students who are not from Plovdiv are accommodated on full board in the school’s dormitory. The building is located with a closed passage-connection to the school. It is in a deplorable condition to say the least, as it has not been renovated since it was built. The children are forced to live all year round in inhumane conditions, surrounded by appalling ruins and squalor. We, from LightSource, tough are confident that together, with the wonderful school team and our generous donors, will create miracles and fundamentally transform the lives of these little sunshines!
Kindergarten
Our young pupils are taught in a separate building within the school complex. Like the school building, there will be a theme appropriate to the age of the children. Positive words and messages will be written to motivate and nurture qualities such as confidence, curiosity, kindness, courage etc. stepping over the threshold of the kindergarten, young and old will embark on a journey into the jungle.
